A good bond with your dog

At Dog School VAN STAL, we are very eager to teach you how to build the best possible bond with your dog that you will enjoy together for years to come.

Dogs by nature do not know what we expect or want from them. To a dog, “sit, wait and off” is completely illogical. Also, walking on a leash is not an exercise they get from their mother, so most puppies will have quite a bit of trouble with that at first.

Dog School Van Stal

At Dog School Van Stal, a good bond between you and your dog is based primarily on understanding and trusting each other. Perhaps the most important of these is learning to respect your dog as a dog. To understand a dog better, it is helpful to learn about the nature of dogs. This means, for example, that you have to start taking into account his needs as well as his particular way of communicating in the form of body language. Once you better understand these needs and figure out dog language, you can suddenly communicate a lot better with your dog. And that makes training a whole lot easier and, above all, more fun!

Communicating with your dog

When raising a dog, it is important to know how dogs learn. What are the learning processes and how can we achieve cooperation without punishment? In the past – both with our children and dogs – punishment was used a lot. Often even with a pain stimulus. Still people like to teach a dog to unlearn something, instead of teaching desired behavior. We can better redirect unwanted behavior to desired behavior.

At Dog School Van Stal trainings, we help you explore what your dog’s needs are and how you can meet them. We teach you to look through the eyes of a trainer so you can answer the questions you have about your dog yourself. Learning to read dog language and recognize the underlying emotions are key to what we call positive dog training.
