Now you have a toddler in the house!
Help, my puppy is becoming a toddler! What should I do now? He still hangs from trouser legs, jumps up at visitors or on the sofa, seems tireless, has bananas in his ears and sometimes seems to have forgotten everything he has learned.

We give you all the tools so your doggie can grow up healthy and safe
Every proud owner of a new puppy goes to puppy school, it’s part of the deal. And even if you have experiences with puppies and doggies, often it’s been a while and the training methods for guiding a puppy into a stable adult dog has not stood still over the past few decades.
During the puppy course, you learned a lot of theory and practical tips about socialisation, biting, sleeping and rest. Much is going pretty well by now, but there are days when everything doesn’t seem to be working.
Pups grow like cabbages and physically and mentally go through all kinds of phases at breakneck speed. Thus, they enter the fear phase and sometimes become afraid of “ordinary” things. They start teething and pee all over your house again. Before you know it, the pre-pubescent period also begins. And you thought having a puppy in the house was complicated? Now you have a toddler, and before you know it, you’ll have a teenager!
What does the training involve?
4 lessons. 100% practical tips. With 3 active practical lessons and 1 inspiring theory lesson, you will get everything you need to train your dog with pleasure and results. Plus: unlimited access to our online learning environment full of videos, clear explanations and direct help from our instructors – day and night.
In our course for “puppies”, we will work together on:
- Dealing with undesirable behaviour such as jumping up, hanging on trouser legs, pulling on the leash or not listening when off the leash
- Teaching desired behaviour and training self-control
- Fun collaborative and ‘fun’ exercises
- Search games: combining rest, nose work and play
- Preparing for care moments such as drying, brushing, visits to the vet, harness or muzzle
- Staying calm when visitors come and dealing with barking at the doorbell
- Understanding game behaviour and body language
- Play date to learn how to interact safely with peers
Playdate
Mutual play, focusing on what play looks like and how best to guide it.
A puppy experiences its socialization period between 8 and 12 weeks of age. But of course that does not mean that this whole period is over after 12 weeks. Socializing is something you do for the rest of your life. You fill your backpack with experiences. From the pre-puberty period, another very vulnerable period starts for your doggie. Everything your doggie sees and experiences during this period he stores for the rest of his life. So a very important period in a dog’s life where he tests and learns social skills.
All in all, the preschool class is a learning addition to the early stages of life with a dog, giving extra attention to all the difficult puppy ups and downs, with the addition of new ways to take this further. Mixed with fun activities, to best enjoy your toddler.
After the toddlerschool
A good start is half the work – but by no means all the work! To raising your dog successfully requires much more than just a puppy course. Just wait until your dog starts going through puberty! At Van Stal, after the puppy and toddler course, you can move on to the Basic course. This course is for dogs aged 14 weeks and older. and provides the foundation for a great life together with your dog. We will delve into the learning process of dogs, training techniques and skills, and teaches you to understand the emotions and motivations behind behaviour. With that knowledge in your pocket, you can take on all challenges!
