For puppies between 8 & 12 weeks of age

What does the training involve?

If you are getting a puppy or have just moved in, you will undoubtedly want some guidance and tips around parenting and socialization. Perhaps you have already immersed yourself completely, but think that going on a course – like us – is very important, because at this age your puppy is largely formed. An investment in the future and your (trusting) bond.

At Puppy School Van Stal, the socialization process is a very important part of puppy classes. Since we also have horses and other farm animals, this is your chance to socialize well with them so that soon you will have a dog that responds positively to other animals.

Between 8 and 12 weeks, a puppy is in its socialization period and its ability to learn is very high. Both positive and negative experiences determine the rest of your dog’s life.

Everyone wants a beautifully balanced little dog with enough confidence to take on the world and be open to learning. Your dog is still entering all sorts of phases where you must be able to guide him well. Learning to read body language and giving your dog a sense of security are important parts.

During the lessons, you will get a lot of information about how dogs learn. How their body language and communication works and we will get hands-on with socialization, walking without leash pressure and rewarding desired behavior.

It is recommended to start the course around 8 weeks of age. The chances of contracting diseases for which your puppy has not yet been fully vaccinated at around 8 weeks of age are minimal at a dog school because of the vaccination check. Spots at risk are mainly the outlet areas.

Full vaccination not required

It does not matter if the puppy has not had all the vaccinations (yet). The mother has provided antibodies and when the first vaccination is given at 6 weeks, the puppy is already protected. At Van Stal, we do believe it is important that the puppy receive all vaccinations over time. All vaccination booklets are checked to see if all puppies are on schedule. It is also possible to join the course with a positive titer determination.

Why learn more about socialization?

When socializing, traumatization is lurking. That sounds pretty intense doesn’t it? It is when you consider that it is not the amount of stimuli we expose the puppy to, but the way. We want to make sure that your dog does not initiate unwanted behavior toward the environment later in life. Therefore, we must take into account the pup’s perceptions. This is different for every puppy, which is why we like to take you through this entire process. A process that begins with reading dog language. We are going to teach you how to interpret this dog language and give you tips and tools so that you can responsibly socialize your dog.

At Van Stal, we safely introduce your pup to stimuli that you will undoubtedly encounter in everyday life. Consider people, other dogs, horses and chickens. By safe, we specifically mean the sense of security the puppy has during these introductions. Do you frequent areas where horses are present, or do you have a breed that employs “herding” as a natural instinct? Then it makes sense to pay extra attention to socialization with horses by taking the exclusive “socialization with horses” class. This class is aimed at making your pup feel safe around a horse so he won’t chase horses in later life. An ideal foundation for a stable dog.

After puppy classes

After lesson 3 of Puppy School Van Stal, there is the possibility of moving on to Kindergarten or Elementary School Van Stal. A must-have course for every dog owner and their dog. Your pup will still be changing a lot in the coming time, all kinds of life phases are still coming your way. For example, the anxiety phases and puberty (from 5 months on) are still quite vulnerable phases in which your dog needs proper guidance to grow into a stable dog. The ability to learn grows and your dog is developing rapidly, so it is important to get started quickly with everything you still want to teach your dog.
