Dogs are man's best friend... Right?

We all love our dogs, but sometimes they don’t quite live up to our expectations. Perhaps your dog does things that bother you as its owner. Jumping up, barking, destroying things, running away, not listening, eating off the street, and so on. No problem for the dog, but very annoying for the owner. At the same time, there are also many situations in which the dog experiences a problem and therefore exhibits undesirable behaviour, such as aggression or fear.

At Van Stal, we help you and your dog find a solution to these problems together. We specialise in complex behavioural problems such as lunging on the leash, chasing traffic/people/dogs/horses, not being able to be home alone, and other expressions of (fear) aggression or frustration. We work with positive training methods focused on the well-being of the dog. This means that we do not use correction, coercion or any other form of suppression of behaviour and emotions.

Want to know more about our vision? Read more about welfare-oriented dog training here.

In addition, we are affiliated with Keurmerk Dierenwelzijn (Animal Welfare Quality Mark) and our behaviour therapists are registered with the NVGH and SPPD. As a result, dogs that are insured are (partially) reimbursed for behaviour programmes.

Our approach

Every private programme starts with an initial two-hour consultation. You can also call us first to get an idea of what to expect. To prepare for this consultation, we ask you to fill out a questionnaire at home. It may be helpful to send us videos of the problem behaviour so that we can assess the reason behind it. During the initial consultation, we will look for the cause of the problem. We will discuss possible ways to solve the problem and give you a number of tools to get started on your own. In consultation with you, we will determine which follow-up programme is best for you.

During the practical sessions, you will gain more insight into your dog’s behaviour. Why does your dog exhibit certain behaviour, what is the underlying emotion and how can you learn to deal with it?
You will learn to think consciously and solution-oriented in terms of changing behaviour and not just unlearning behaviour.
Dog training will take on a different perspective and you will gain insight into your dog.
We will teach you to see through the eyes of a trainer, so that you will no longer need us.

Van Stal has various training rooms that can be completely closed off. This allows us to work on problem behaviour in a safe and controlled environment. Whatever you and your dog are struggling with, we have the resources to help you. Is your dog anxious, or are you unable to come to Van Stal for another reason? Don’t worry, we can also come to your home.

PLEASE NOTE!
Even behaviour that seems harmless at first glance can eventually become a persistent, embarrassing or even dangerous problem.

Ask for help in time!

Preventing behaviour is really the best prevention. Asking for help is not always easy. You get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The undesirable behaviour is not always very pronounced, so you are not constantly confronted with it. Or it may be that your dog’s behaviour has become so extreme that you are now ashamed of it and that is why you have not yet sought help.

Both complex behavioural problems and harmless issues often start small. Your patience is almost gone, but you wait a little longer, until it really gets out of hand. The longer you wait, the longer it takes to change the behaviour.
This also applies to trauma or fears, for example. After a negative experience, a dog can quickly develop aggression. This does not mean that you have an aggressive dog at home; your dog is still very sweet, but your dog may have difficulty with certain situations or stimuli. Do not wait too long and seek help; we are happy to help you and your dog.
